CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF TEAMWORK AS A TOOL FOR ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT BY OFFICE MANAGER
ABSTRACT: This study was carried out to examine the analysis of teamwork as a tool for organisational development using Nasarawa Investment and Property Development Company’s Ltd, Lafia, Nasarawa State as case study. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of staff of Nasarawa Investment and Property Development Company’s Ltd, Lafia, Nasarawa State. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 63 respondents and all were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and mean scores. The result of the findings reveals that; teamwork contributes to organisational development, as it improves organisational productivity, improves organizational effective/efficiency, increases innovation, and enhances flexibility. The findings further show that the factors which enhances team performance include; adequate levels of complementary skills, establishment of clear approach to the team’s work, a sense of mutual accountability, defined appropriate leadership structure, positive corporate culture, and climate of cooperation and collaboration. Therefore it is recommended that the organizations should develop effective approach to high performing teams by allowing open communication structure and empowerment evaluation to increase team effectiveness and performance. The selection of team members should be based on individual ability, technical skills and competencies in order to stimulate team member’s interest to task meant to be accomplished and in the fulfillment of the team’s role.
